Itinerary: Where in the bloody Europe am I going?

The plan is that at some point in August I leave for Europe. I’ll fly out of Portland, Oregon. That’s about all I’m sure of!

Well, no, I take that back. Odds are we’ll plunk me down in London, and I’ll stay there for a few days. Fitting – the last time I went abroad (August 1999, 4 years ago once I leave) I started my trip with a few days in London then, too.
London’s a great starting point anyway; the whole of Europe and the UK are accessible from there. Fly to Dublin? Sorted. Train north to Scotland (which admittedly is one of my first impulses, because Edinburgh is a second home to me) – no worries. Train or plane to the mainland? Easy.
Plan so far though, is for me to spend a few weeks moseying around Britain. Take the train through England and Wales, then up to Scotland for a while, then probably back to London. Where from there though? Here’s a rough list of all the countries I’ll be going to:

  • Austria
  • Belgium
  • Bulgaria
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Finland
  • France
  • F.Y.R.O.M.
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Holland
  • Hungary
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Montenegro
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Republic of Ireland
  • Serbia
  • Slovakia
  • Spain
  • Sweden
  • Switzerland
  • Turkey
  • Yugoslavia
Makes my mouth water. Now to figure out how long where, and in what order for all these different places.
