This is v. true, and something the lads and I have talked about. Figuring out places where we can really use some more content, and maybe even meeting some more people who’d be willing to share what they know about a country or city or something.

vbrookie – you’ve got some stuff in the comments here, and a fair few things on the boards now… maybe there’ll be some articles in your future one day?

I think this is great idea! This way you can findout what’s really missing (if there is any) in the BnA site, or you can gather ideas for improvement on the way. Personally, I’ll take guidebook with me when I go, but for your journey only using Bootsnall for your guide is way cool idea!..

Perhaps just foregoing LP, say, for Rough Guides or Let’s Go is what I might do? Seems like those have been the most “accepted” and “preferred” as of late, with the indy-backpacker set?

I know that they are not as “cool” as the LP guides, but I think that the Let’s Go! guide to Europe is very good. I recommend it.

Ahhh… that’s a good point. Guidebooks do have their use, that’s for sure – and other people like to use them. At the least – maybe for some info, to examine other writing styles, and to have titles to list for other travelers who want guidebooks – maybe I’ll read over some, review them, and what-not. But the bulk of the trip-planning I want to do online and through BootsnAll. Good points though…

Ant, you know I love you guys and I think the BnA community + blogs and other online stuff to just do your research is plenty of info for you to do your book on. BUT I highly rec that you check out Frommer’s Irreverent Guides. They are my favorites. If you only look at the way they do their subjects within the guides, the headers, the way they separate the info for you I think you’d get some really cool ideas. I know you can write punchy and with cool lingo, but theirs is the best I’ve seen yet and I’ll beg you to check them out. The one I used way back was The Irreverent Guide to Santa Fe. If I have it around, please let me show it to you. It rocks.
