Daily Budget Breakdown

Some folks have talked to me about wanting to see me do a regular post on what my budget and expenses are in Europe. The "here is my budget for X town", and "here is what cheese costs.... and grapes... and the taxi across town... and how much I spent on beer tonight". That sort of thing. Good idea – thanx Chris Albon & Claudia!

So I'll do just that. I don't know that I'll be posting up a "budget breakdown" every day, but I will do up something at the least for every town and city I'm in, to give a better general idea of costs, budget, expected vs. actual, that sort of thing.

How do figures in euros; pounds sterling; and Australian, Canadian, and US dollars sound?

These posts will go in the "Daily Budget Breakdown" category, as well as the city category for each relevant town.

Anymore suggestions or ideas or stuff you want to see on here? Let me know, either in the comment fields on any post, or email me: ant@BootsnAll.com.

I use US dollars whenever possible (and would use a lot more if Ant would just send some to me) however, I think that it would be prudent to just use Euros so that everyone could understand.

I suspect that other nationalities really hate it when currencies are displayed in US$.

When I had a good job and a short vacation, I would budget $50 a day. Now that I have no job and heaps of vacation time, I budget $25 a day. (Anyday now I will be living underneath the Boots'n All front porch and existing on table scraps)

Ok Ant, this is when you learn you spurs.

I would like to see this:

Ant actually experimenting and LIVING for:

2 Days at $60 a day
2 Days at $50 a day
2 Days at $40 a day
2 Days at $30 a day
2 Days at $20 a day

For each of the five "experiments" I'd like to see a detailed breakdown of how you lived for those two days and what you spend your money on.

This interests me because of course you can have a better time for 60 a day than 20 a day... but HOW MUCH BETTER? Is there a point (such as anyhting under 40 a day) that it becomes unfun/difficult to live and be in europe? When you have a small budget, what little things do you learn to do to save money (cook your own food? etc...)

What ya think of that Ant?

I think that also would be an interesting experiment though, when moving around to different cities its hard to compare. $30 a day in Paris may not even get you a room while in Eastern Europe you might live like a king. An interesting idea though.

Good point.

Maybe each of the experiments should be only 1 day, and should be carried out in western european countries only.

Of course some things in spain are going to be cheaper than in france but in general it should be the same. I do agree though the experiment wouldnt work if sometimes it was in warsaw and sometimes it was in paris.
