i admire your resourcefulness.

i’m taking with me to scandinavia a decent 35mm slr. i’ve been meaning to upgrade to digital for some time now, but i don’t want to buy one just for this trip, since if i lose it, or if it gets stolen, i’ll just get all bent out of shape. if i lose this 35mm, well, it sucks, but it wont surprise me. i don’t expect to return to the states with this camera, but i do hope i get some nice shots with it before its gone via loss or thievery.

That’s an awesome idea, and has me thinking… I wonder if I could do something similar, not only with the digital camera, but maybe also with Zula. Set up something similar now and again, maybe give a demo of one/both, in exchange for transfer, maybe some comp. internet time?

Before I set off to Spain, I contacted an English speaking computer club at one of my stops, and agreed to meet with them when I arrived at their town and transfer my pictures thus far (five 64mb memory cards) to CD. In return, I gave them a demo of my digital camera and a brief talk about how I was using it on my travels, for their interest.

Didn’t mean to sound so negative. I just know one extra thing weighing another pound is something I’d try to avoid. If that doesn’t bother you though, it sounds like a good option.

Did you happen to catch the price tag of even the cheapest 3Gig one? It’s like $350. I’d rather take my chances with a few $60 mem cards. Yes, you need a computer, but how many pics do you think you will really be storing? Digital allows you to throw out the crap ones on the spot. I think less gear is better. Just my 2 cents.
