I just got back from a 2-week trip to Greece, Turkey, Italy and Croatia. I was honest when people asked me where I was from and said America. I had no problems at all. No snide comments, nothing. I was really worried, but it was fine.

They really do want to hear what other people think, how their nation is perceived, etc. In my experience, I have noticed that the tendency for Americans to be blunt and 'up-front' about politics is appreciated. Of course, they also like me because I tell them that Bush is a war criminal. ;^)
