Some street scams in Barcelona, Spain

Some street scams in Barcelona, Spain

"I created this page in early 1996. At that time it was a small collection of my own experiences. These were almost all amusing and almost all involved the voluntary surrender of one's money. I also solicited stories from others. Over time, the contributed stories greatly outnumbered my own and the tone has steadily changed from amused to something darker."

Florentino Benzzoli posted a laptop on Dell.com. He said he was a police officer in Madrid and was selling a confiscated laptop for his precinct. He gave me the name of a Wade Smith and address in Spain and I sent $730 Western Union. After he received the money he sent a follow-up email saying the laptop was on his desk being packed up. I wouldn't have fallen for it all, but he made several mistakes (apparently intentional) that made me believe his story. One mistake he made was confusing my name with that of a colleague in charge of the confiscated materials that he was supposed to get in touch with. He apoologized and said his precinct was very large. This was the first time I've ever been scammed in anyway, but this guy was an experienced con.

My wife and I are visitng Europe in the next year. We are purchasing one of the Saver passes, but were told this does not include reservations. We are starting out in Spain, and pan to do about a two-week whirwind in which we see France, Italy, and Austria as well. How much are we looking at for these reservations, and will they apply everytime we jump on and off a train?
