Philip Blazdell on worthwhile cities
Philip's been all around Europe (amongst other places), and he gave his take on some of the cities we're kicking around:
ant
from your list, here are some initial thought of the things I would do or
see:
UK & Ireland
Edinburgh - festival, drink scotch
Dublin - drink Guinness, go to a pub, drink..
London - go clubbing, see a show, go to the British museum, eat a curry
Glasgow - go see a footy match
Liverpool - see Abbey Road, see some footy, take the ferry across the Mersey
Manchester - great for clubbing, footy and shopping
Newcastle - er? I do hear it has a cracking night life....
Scandinavia
Oslo - Viking museum, lots of museum, the main street on a sunny day,
Norwegian girls....mmmmmmmmmmm
Stockholm - Ice bars, the harbour, the old town (except when its snowing and
-20)
Helsinki - the parliament, cathedral, lovely food. See some Ice hockey.
Western Europe
Paris - Louvre, Notre Dam, walk along the Seine...
Rotterdam - its just a dump and not too safe
Brussels - beer, French fries and lots of mussels
Amsterdam - art galleries. Rijksmuseum, red light district, visit Ann Franks house... essential....
Frankfurt - er.... visit our office?
Berlin - Pretend you are Liza Minelli and go drinking...
Vienna - walk along the river, eat cakes, go to a classical recital..
Athens -
Rome - Vatican city, the coliseum, the Spanish steps
Marseilles -
Barcelona - I think I have been here - maybe the Picasso museum?
Madrid
Lisbon - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. Bomb the place please...
Paris
Munich - beer, beer and er, beer... Munich Beer Festival
Antwerp - not the best place unless you want to buy diamonds...
Luxembourg - I passed through here once - lots of banks and nothing else
Liechtenstein
Bordeaux - oh, just the wine...
Pamplona
Leon
Salzburg
Innsbruck
Zurich - ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh. So so dull. you could visit our
office....
Interlaken - I know a magnificent hotel here but like the rest of CH I find it dull... eat lots of chocolate though
Bern
Geneva
Venice- magnificent galleries, trips to Murano and Burano..... wonderful
Milan - get mugged at the station as I nearly did last week
Strasbourg - wonderful wine, gateway to the black forest, magnificent clock
tower, EU parliament
Eastern Europe & the Balkans
Prague - good food, cheap beer, lots of art
Warsaw - Chopin's head (don't ask its a long story). Opera is excellent and cheap.
Krakow - wonderful cloth market, trips to Auswitz and Salt mines are essential
Bratislava
Budapest
Belgrade
Bucharest
Sofia
Skopje
Ljubljiana
hope this helps,
Philip
