Everyone, thanks for all your comments. I'm not seeing what you're seeing though - and if I've missed something, please tell me what I've missed.

When I read Scott's story, I saw someone who made plenty of mistakes while he was on the road, but he and his friends seemed to me that they were making far more fun of themselves than they ever did anyone else.

I saw nothing in that story to suggest malice or racism. I saw a lot of misunderstandings, well-intentioned, the sort that happen to any traveler sooner or later. But I could be wrong. If I am, please email and tell me. Thanks for your comments, and I hope to see you around more.

Thanks,
Anthony St. Clair

As a Chinese woman living in Belgique I find it very disappointing that someone like Scott Dixon find time to mook people of other races.

My husband is Belgique and I have friends of different races, yet this man he has fun at us.

Hey Helmut, chill buddy. How is acknowledging two different nationalities possible animosity towards each other, for whatever reason or not, racist? Especially since both countries and the person writing are predominantly the same race?

I need to agree with Mr Dixon as I have found Germans and Dutch very hostile towards one another.

However, a good article was wasted by Mr Dixon in spending time going on about very trivial matters.

Excuse my English.

I feel offended that you feel that German and Dutch people are not friends. My friends are from the Netherlands and I would not do to offend them.

This may seem extreme but you are a racist.

As an active, outgoing and enthusiastic child of traveller I often read stories by eager or mystified globe trotters, not only to compare similar escapades but to get ideas for my own future excursions. Over a rather hectic festive period while indulging in enough rum to water the Sahara and a few meaty cigars my budding but ' virgin' travelling friends decided we would visit Europe over this coming summer. Every story I have read and every tale I have been told leads me to believe there will be some special times but also some difficult times as there is wherever you go, whatever you do! I would never normally leave a comment on the Internet in response to a story from someone who has been so besieged with petite problems but Scott Dixon your story made me laugh. Not at your long winded yarn but at you ! For someone who can't seem to look after his or his friend’s personal effects, for someone who can't seem to count or for someone who seems to have had little experience in the game of Charades, should you really have been away from Mummy in the first place? My only advice to you Mr Dixon if trying to tell the internet surfing population of a past experience in Europe you must concentrate on the food, weather and ladies before you talk so openly and at so much length about ' TRAINS' & ' language' what drivel !!!

Oh well Scott Dixon I hope you have many more activity weekends to Piccadilly or Great Fenchurch Street , my only advice for you - wear a bum bag and cover up the Rangers top with your Parka !
